Abstract

The aim of the study is to define the main features of newspapers and magazines in Ukraine, dedicated to life stories, to determine their gender dimensions (authorship, publication heroes, and topics). Such periodicals include: «Istoriji iz zhyzni / Stories from life», «Zhenskije istorji / Women’s stories», « Uspehi i porazheniya / Successes and defeats», «Nievydumannyjie istoriji / Inventory stories», «Nejmovirni istoriji zhyttia / Incredible life stories», «Simejni istoriji zhyttia / Family life stories» and others. Methods. Observations, analysis and generalizations made it possible to outline the typological features of the mentioned periodicals; the content-analysis method is involved in determining the authors or main characters of the publications. Results and conclusions. It has been found that newspapers up to 28 pages are mostly devoted to life stories; about 12 stories are published in every number, 8 of which are from women and about women, about 4 are signed by men and devoted to their fates. Heart affection and betrayal, friendship and distrust, affinity and estrangement, jealousy and suffering, romance and fatality – the whole palette of human emotional and psychological life is embodied in most life stories. The practice of publishing periodicals dedicated to life stories, the interest of the audience (primarily women), the thematic content, the style of transformation of readers mail and other elements that form similar newspaper or magazine, need more analysis.
