Abstract

Introduction. Preservation of historical memory has been realized for centuries thanks to research in the field of history, as well as literary works dedicated to heroes and events of the past. At the same time, commemoration of events of the Russian-Ukrainian war that occurred relatively recently can be considered in the discourse of journalism studies.

Relevance and purpose. With the help of modern media technologies, journalists record the thoughts and memories of participants in outstanding historical events. Journalistic work is important for commemoration of events and heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian war. This is a relevant topic for research in the discourse of journalism studies. Accordingly, the purpose of our study is to determine the main features of commemorative practices in the discourse of journalism studies.

Methodology. The main research method is observation, which allowed us to identify the current comemorative practices in the modern media environment. Discourse analysis of media texts allowed us to identify the connection between statements and fragments of texts that were selected by random sampling. Using comparative analysis, we clarified the understanding of the commemoration process in the discourse of journalism. We identified the levels at which comemorative practices can be implemented.

Results. The understanding of commemoration in the discourse of journalism studies is clarified. This concept can be defined as the process of preserving the memory of the Russian-Ukrainian war using traditional and new media. Commemorative practices in the discourse of journalism studies can include publications in traditional and new media about the events, memorable dates, heroes and heroines of the Russian-Ukrainian war. It is determined that commemorative practices can be implemented at different levels (state, local authorities, private initiatives). It is established that the main trends in the use of commemorative practices in the Ukrainian media are the use of emotions, symbols, and archetypes.

Conclusions. The article defines the main features of commemorative practices in the discourse of journalism studies, in particular, finding and preserving information about important events, heroes and heroines of the Russian-Ukrainian war, creating of media materials on preserving the historical memory of the war, as well as the use of traditional and new media to disseminate information about the commemoration of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
